Between December last year and now there have been several musical revelations which I should have mentioned here. Like discovering (a bit late, admittedly) local singer/songwriter Harold K, who's also a really nice guy. Or accidentally stumbling upon Great Lake Swimmers. Or, when you think it isn't possible anymore: Will Johnson reaching a new level with South San Gabriel's live performance of The Carlton Chronicles.
However, I didn't. Because there were people around me to share my excitement.
But now, I have to shout it out, because this particular cd I just HAVE to play daily. Preferably twice. And because it won't come out until August, and I don't want to make everyone jealous by hinting at it, and since Stefan doesn't like his voice, I'll say it here: JOHN VANDERSLICE's PIXEL REVOLT is completely genius. GENIUS.

Sometimes concerts are so special that it's better to preview than review.
Ken Stringfellow, Paradiso, March 2002. A show that would have a lasting impact on my life. Tomorrow and day after tomorrow he will play again in the Netherlands, on his own, like he did then. Because it won't be like it was that evening (quite frankly, I'm glad it won't), I will write now how special this is.

A recent Mojo had a really good compilation cd. All covers of Johnny Cash, I was very sceptical when I saw that, but it's really good. Especially the reggae version of Ring of Fire. Seriously!
